Russia Consumer Price Inflation Rises In August

Russia's annual consumer price inflation increased in August, a report by the Federal State Statistics Service showed on Monday.

The consumer price index, or CPI, rose 6.1% year-on-year in August, faster than 5.5% seen in the previous month. A year earlier, the CPI increased 11.6%.

Food prices also grew 6.1% annually in August, after rising 11.6% a year ago. At the same time, services prices climbed 8%, slower than a 13.9% growth last year.

On a monthly basis, the CPI increased 0.6% in August, compared to a flat reading in the preceding year. For the January to August period, consumer prices climbed 5.4% over a year ago.
